Why is Abandon Site Flow Important?
Most of the marketers and store owners don’t know about this flow and how to set up abandoned site flow in klaviyo. It means they’re losing $$$ on the table.
If you’re getting good traffic to your store from social media ads but not generating good revenue, and you’re not taking advantage of the Abandon Site Flow Klaviyo, then you’re missing out. This flow can show breathtaking performance if your store or your client’s store has good traffic, but visitors leave without viewing any products or placing an order. But don’t worry, at the end of this post, you can create an abandoned site flow in Klaviyo [2023] from scratch, and going to tell you to step-by-step process.
Pre-Requisite:
To set up this flow, you need to ensure that the ACTIVE ON SITE metric is working properly. This flow is useless if the Active on Site metric is not tracking activities. Most of the time, integrating your e-commerce store with Klaviyo enables it to track activities, but you should double-check before proceeding with the Abandoned Site Flow.
To check if Active on Site functionality is working or not, follow these steps:
1] go to your Klaviyo LEFT side options
2] Click on METRICS next to the dashboard below the ANALYTICS category.
3] You will see this dashboard:
4] click on ACTIVE ON SITE on top and check the graph after that.
If you see a graph like that it means the metric is not ACTIVE and even if you set up your ABANDON SITE FLOW [ It is useless ]
What To Do Then?
Double-check your E-commerce + Klaviyo Integration and do a test on your behalf by going to your store.
How To Test?
?utm_email=example@gmail.com … Copy this link and paste it after your store URL like [ www.alixemail.com?utm_email=example@gmail.com] and press ENTER.

TIP: You can also replace example@gmail.com with your email like ?utm_email=alixemail.com
After pressing enter, go from top to bottom and cross your store means to close your store and then again check Metrics > Active on site graph
If you see an image like this:
THEN you’re good to go…

1st Email: Simply tell them they were browsing your store but did not make a purchase. Show them your bestsellers or whatever items or collections you want to highlight.
In last, after double-checking your flow, set it live and sit back to see the results : )
2nd Email: In this email of Abandon Site Flow in Klaviyo, offer them a discount of X% off or $X off, or any other type of discount to convince them to buy from you. Create urgency by mentioning that the offer is valid for X hours, X days, or whatever duration you choose.
3rd Email: Remind them of their discount and create urgency again by emphasizing the offer’s expiration. Encourage them to take advantage of the offer before it’s too late.
PS: Points mentioned in this flow are not hard and fast to follow… You can A/B test time delay, subject lines, plain text email vs design email, etc.
Advanced Level Abandon Site Flow Klaviyo:
- A/B Test plain vs design email
- Add more emails based on analytics
- SMS In Flow
- Conditional split
1] A/B Test Plain Vs Designed Email:
VERY IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER :
This is a very important aspect to test, and we have experienced mind-blowing results for plain text email [ you might be but it depends ]
To A/B test, we distribute your profiles on a 50-50 ratio for design email and plain text email.
How to do:
Go to conditional split from left side options, and drag conditional split to where you want to divide your audience.
Then click on select condition,
After clicking on Select a condition, you will see a list of options, then click on RANDOM SAMPLE from list.
After doing this, you will find random sample only include 50% of the people …that were needed …means 50% of traffic goes to A path and 50% to B Path.
You can A/B test plain vs design for any one email or all three emails.
Remember, don’t forget to rejoin them after the A/B test.
If you want to A/B for all three emails of abandoned site flow , no need to connect back to original path
2] SMS In Flow:
SMS marketing is also another underrated marketing medium, most don’t use it. But you can take its leverage for abandon site flow klaviyo if you have their phone number along with emails.
Remember, don’t forget to turn on smart sending for SMS marketing… try to use only 1 SMS in flow unless you have their consent for more.
3] Can add more emails based on stats:
You are not restricted to using only 3 emails in abandon site flow, you can go the extra mile but first, analyze your stats.
If you have a good open rate, and click rate, then can go to add more
Engagement is not going down, you can check in the below screenshot.
PS: Work on your copy if not getting conversions
What To Add In Next Emails?
You might be thinking about this. Let me explain it.
So after reminding, offering a discount, and final reminder in the first 3 emails, you have to strategize differently
Going to elaborate it right now : )
You can show reviews In 3rd email or a/b test in any email of this flow but if you did not show them a review in the first 3 emails
You can show that in 4th email
IF….
Have shown them then think differently
Suppose you’ve offered 10% off in the first 2nd and 3rd emails, but they did not purchase, so try to be aggressive.
Increase it to 15% off or other [ It depends on ]
After increasing your offer, let them know they can enjoy now 10% off and 15% off within 24 hours
After that, email them after every 6-7 hours to tell them X Hours are left to save their discount.
In doing so you can send 5-6 more emails BUT…. don’t forget to have an eye over the stats ….. if KPIs start dropping ..just stop adding more emails.
PS: Stats can guide you to add more emails or not.
4] Conditional Split:
- Based on gender to show them different bestsellers based on their gender
- Based on locality
